MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST ATTRACTIONS and BEACHES

Beaches of the Mississippi Gulf Coast

They are clean and viewable from Beach Boulevard (U.S. Highway 90) along the 26-mile beach area. The highway has numerous pull-over places for autos. Restrooms, colorful beach chairs, sailboat and jet ski vendors are also plentiful. You can swim without fear of pollution, under-tow or deep drop-offs. The waters along the beach are calm due to a chain of barrier islands that protects the shore from most storms and limits the wave action hitting the beach. The only exception to calmness is when a major Gulf of Mexico hurricane arrives.

Many vacationers who frequent Florida beaches are discovering that the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches are as beautiful and well maintained, without the crowding.

Some of the beach is reserved as a nesting ground for Terns. Quiet beaches line the residential areas of Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, Long Beach to the west of Biloxi, and Ocean Springs, Pascagoula to the east. These areas are great for sunbathing, romantic walks, and picnics. Nutrients flowing in from the Mississippi River feed the food chain of a bountiful seafood industry here.

Waveland Beach
A small but important beach; it was the first beach African Americans could lawfully visit on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, next to Bay St Louis along Highway 90.
